Most people think of Easter as a Christian celebration of the resurrection of Jesus. And it is — but that’s just the surface layer we’ve been told. Underneath the traditions lies a powerful, ancient wisdom — one that speaks to something deeply human: our need to reset and begin again at times. Easter isn’t just about religion. It’s a symbolic map of transformation that reflects the cycles of nature, the universe, and our inner lives. Let’s explore this hidden wisdom — in a way that even if you’ve never studied ancient traditions, spirituality, or astrology, you’ll feel its truth in your bones. 🥚 A Name That Speaks of BeginningsLet’s start with the name itself. “Easter” is believed to come from Eastre, a pre-Christian goddess of spring and dawn. She represented new life, fertility, and the rising light — literally and symbolically. Her festival was celebrated in April, when flowers bloom, animals awaken, and life reemerges after winter (in the north hemisphere). In other words, Easter has always been about renewal. The Portuguese word for Easter, Páscoa, comes from the Hebrew Pesach, which means “passage.” That gives us another clue: Easter is a threshold moment — a time of crossing from one phase of life to another. 🌕 Why Easter Happens When It DoesEver noticed Easter’s date changes every year? That’s because it's not based on the calendar, but on the sky. Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon that follows the spring equinox. Meaning: it always falls in a very specific astrological window: when the Sun has just moved from Aries into Taurus, and the moon is in its waning phase in the Aries lunation — two zodiac signs with deep symbolic meaning. (It’s ok if you don’t understand this, bare with me). 🔥 Aries: The Spark of InitiationAries, the first sign of the zodiac, is associated with fire, movement, and new beginnings. When the moon is in its Aries lunation — as it’s during Lent, just before Easter — it brings up strong energies. Think of it as the emotional ignition point of the year. It’s a time when we’re pushed to see what’s not working in our lives. Old patterns, unconscious habits, and emotional triggers come to the surface. Not to punish us, but to wake us up. That’s why Lent is a phase of Christian religious observance in preparation for Easter. During that period, Aries energy exposes what’s been hidden to be seen, observed, noticed. It lights a fire under what’s no longer aligned, making it impossible to ignore. 🐂Taurus: Integration and EmbodimentAnd then… the Sun moves into Taurus, Earth sign of grounding, self-worth, and values. After the shake-up of Aries, Taurus offers stability. Where Aries reveals the truth, Taurus invites us to live it. To embody new choices. To build a new foundation based on what we now know to be real. Themes like self-love, self-care, self-respect, and self-worth come into focus. These aren’t just buzzwords — they are the building blocks of the new version of yourself that’s trying to emerge. So, Easter — which takes place under the Taurus Sun — is the moment to begin living in that new energy. It’s not just about resurrection. It’s about embodiment.. 💧Lent: Inner PurificationNow let’s go back a bit. Before Easter comes Lent — a 40-day period of spiritual preparation in Christianity. It mirrors the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the wilderness, facing temptation, reflecting, cleansing. But symbolically, Lent is also a mirror for us. It represents the process of becoming aware of the unconscious patterns that shape our reality — and then doing the inner work to release them. Our self destructive habits, our self sabotaging patterns, our addictions. Lent invites us to see them and let it go — to fast, not just from food, but from the behavior and belief patterns that no longer serve the person we’re becoming. 🕊️ Easter: The Rebirth After the ReleaseSo when Easter finally arrives, it’s not just a celebration of Christ rising from the dead — it’s the symbolic moment we are invited to rise anew. But here’s the thing: Lent reveals all the damage, drama, sabotage we’ve been creating in our own lives without even knowing. That often brings up feelings of guilt, shame, pride, resentment. When we realize we've been the ones creating certain painful patterns in our lives — even unconsciously — it can trigger deep self judgement. That’s why forgiveness is essential. The story of Easter includes the idea of redemption: the grace of washing away our sins. But in deeper terms, this isn’t about moral failure — it’s about feeling free to rise in alignment with our true selves. Confession of our sins becomes awareness of our negative patterns. Atonement becomes clarity of your new ways of operating. Resurrection becomes the moment we decide to let die our old identities — and step into a new being: the true us. 🌸 A Invitation from lifeSo Easter through a religious lens or as a symbolic one, in the turning of life’s cycle — the invitation is the same: Awaken. Forgive. Let go. Begin again. This is not just a celebration of a man rising from the grave — it’s a map for how all of us can rise to a new life after we’ve lost our way. The story of Easter is the story of all of us — stumbling through darkness, facing our shadows, and finding our way back to the light. If you’ve been feeling like life is asking for a renewal of you lately, it probably is. Because this is your passage. |
